My research activities are primarily centred on elucidation and prevention of central disease problems and suboptimal conditions in production animals on the basis of energy metabolism. The main part of my activities focuses on physiological adaptations in periparturient dairy cows. Special focus is on the development and use of non-invasive technology for identifying suboptimal conditions in liver tissue, including the use of ultrasound in disease identification, development and use of in vitro and in vivo techniques for studying liver function, clinical-chemical analytical methods for monitoring biochemical processes in relevant tissues/organs. Quite recently initiatives have been taken for developing and working with animal models in connection with health-related human problems.
