Profile
Description of Research unit:
The research topics of the group cover the reaction of vegetable crops to growth factors, in order to contribute to the development of improved cropping methods and to protect the environment. We are working with:
- Quality aspects of vegetables, e.g. contents of vitamins and other nutritionally important compounds, harvest splitting of carrots and cropping methods to reduce sprouting of onions during storage.
- Organic vegetable production, green manuring and a stock-less organic crop rotation for vegetable production.
- Evaluation of vegetable cultivars, testing their value for practical production, as well as their resistance or tolerance to important pests and diseases.
- Irrigation and fertilization of vegetables, both in the field and in greenhouses.
- Methods to reduce the losses of plant nutrients to the environment, e.g. recirculation of nutrient solutions in greenhouse production and catch crops in field production.
- Root growth of various vegetable crops, and utilization of mycorrhizal fungi on the roots of some vegetables.
- Crop models aimed at decision support systems, especially for integrated production.
