Profile

Objectives

The overall objective of the research group is to provide basic knowledge on the physiological background for digestion and metabolism of nutrients in the various tissues and organs with emphasis on productivity and health of animals as well as the products' nutritional and health quality.

Aims

  • provide knowledge on feed and food composition and quality as well as digestion and absorption with emphasis on energy, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins and specific feed components such as phytochemicals
  • To provide knowledge on the intermediate metabolism of nutrients, physiological regulation, growth, development and function of the various body organs and tissues and the requirement for the various manifestation of life with emphasis on productivity and health
  • To provide knowledge on the influence of nutrients on the composition of animal products and the contents of biologically active components of importance to human nutrition and food quality
  • To strengthen the biological knowledge on nutrition and production physiology by increased use of postgenomic, proteomic and metabonomic techniques and by use of animal models to study the effect of nutritional and bioactive components.
