Research Interests:

• Studies on the possible neuroprotective effects of plant estrogens (phytoestrogens) and other bioactives found in food, in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
• The neuroprotective effects of phytoestrogens and other bioactives are established in in vitro cell-based models with human neuronal cells.
• The molecular mechanisms involved in such neuroprotection as determined by the involvement of specific genes, such as pro-apoptotic or anti-apoptotic genes.
